Data Associate (Analysis)

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Analyst within the Research Division, Equis is seeking a motivated and collaborative Data Associate (Analysis Team) to support an ongoing portfolio of polling and other data projects that aim to deepen our understanding of Latino voters. The Data Associate (Analysis Team) will add critical capacity to the Research/Analysis team, playing a critical role in data acquisition and management, and, overall, supporting the Analysis Team's efforts to leverage data to tell a more accurate and nuanced story about the Latino electorate. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced environment, with attention to detail, data collection and management. While experience working with data specific to Latinos is not necessary, our ideal candidate will have cultural fluency and a demonstrated awareness for racial and ethnic bias in data collection and analysis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Collection & Management

• Obtain, review, combine, merge, and maintain data sets of all sizes and types, including census and other demographic data, spatial data, and both publicly available and proprietary voter databases and public opinion polls.

Internal Systems Building

• As part of a collaboration with the Targeting and Analysis Teams, incumbent will build out internal systems to increase data analytics capacities, such as, but not limited to: organizing and merging existing datasets and applying new learnings, building well documented, repeatable work flows and protocols, and developing templates for ongoing data collection and analysis projects.

Data Visualization

• In collaboration with the analysis team, support data visualization for memos, decks and other research products, for a wide range of audiences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 1-3 years  of relevant experience, coursework, or knowledge in Data Collection and Management, coupled with building systems for data analytics 
• 1-3 years of expertise in STATA, R, or equivalent statistical software
• 1-3 years of experience with data visualization tools 
• Well-organized with experience or ability to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; flexible and able to adapt to evolving priorities
• Demonstrated experience in collaborating or offering creative solutions to complex data issues.
• Demonstrated history of unending curiosity, knack for tweaking methods to get better outcomes, and impeccable attention to detail
• Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of experience, degree or closely related field in Data Collection and Management, coupled with building systems for data analytics 
• 3+ years of experience working with polling data, census data, precinct-level election results, or voter files/voter data
• 3+ years of experience with data visualization tools and experience with collaboration and version control tools
• Familiarity with the processes and standards of academic research 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a fully remote (USA only), full-time position with  occasional domestic travel and a competitive salary range of $60-80k/year. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of what Equis may pay for this position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as budget availability and commensurate with the selected candidates’ experience.
