ABOUT

Equis is a set of organizations working to create a better understanding of Latinos, innovate new approaches to reach and engage them, and invest in the leadership and infrastructure for long-term change and increased engagement. Since 2019, we have served as a hub of Latino polling, qualitative insights, and data, with analysis based on a large set of interviews, focus groups, online journals, ethnographies, and vote simulations.  Equis is a leader in digital innovation, focused on message testing and experiments, anti-disinformation tracking, and digital capacity-building for grassroots groups. Equis is also committed to developing Latino leaders across the progressive space, serving as a convener of organizations and individuals leading Hispanic-focused programs. In 2022, Equis launched Moonshots, a set of bold, ambitious initiatives to massively increase Latino power, influence, and belonging in the US.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Counter-Disinformation Strategies, in consultation with the Chief Analyst, Equis is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Researcher to support analysis of public opinion research, including polls, surveys, and focus groups, that aim to deepen our understanding of disinformation, misinformation, propaganda, and hyper-partisan narratives affecting Latino communities. The Researcher, Polling, and Analytics will support the team’s efforts to leverage data to tell a more accurate and nuanced story about how false and misleading information impacts uncertainty and belief among Latino communities. The ideal candidate will have attention to detail, and experience with data collection and management. While experience working with data specific to Latinos is not necessary, our ideal candidate will have cultural fluency and a demonstrated awareness of racial and ethnic bias in data collection and analysis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data Management: Collect, organize, and review data sets, public opinion polls, surveys, test results, and focus group readouts.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze and draw trends and conclusions from poll data, surveys, focus group readouts, and interviews.
  • Data Visualization: Support data visualization for memos, decks, and other research products, for a wide range of audiences.
  • Internal Systems Building: Working with the Analysis Team and Counter-Disinformation researchers, build out internal systems to increase data analytics capacities, such as but not limited to organizing and merging existing datasets and applying new learnings, building well-documented, repeatable workflows and protocols, and developing templates for ongoing data collection and analysis projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience working with polling data and basic statistical analysis.
  • 3+ years of experience working with data visualization.
  • Experience working in STATA, R, or equivalent statistical software.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Demonstrated interest in public opinion and behavioral research, with an interest in information integrity and disinformation issues a plus.
  • Demonstrated a history of curiosity and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Well-organized with experience or ability to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; flexible and able to adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Fluency in English, with Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in political, economic, and social issues affecting US Latino communities and/or Latin America.
