Equis was founded in 2019 to create a better understanding of the Latino electorate, invest in new and innovative approaches to reach and engage them, and uplift the Latino leaders of tomorrow who will implement and carry forward this important work.

We envision a world where Latinos are influential and powerful. To make this a reality, we believe we need to start by changing how Latinos see themselves and how the rest of the country sees them. Our community, democracy, and country deserve a future that is built for and by Latinos.

Equis has developed ten “moonshot” campaigns to tackle this from political, media, and cultural perspectives. Our “moonshots” provide new thinking and leadership. A 5-10 year program, the moonshots seed, build, and scale efforts that fill gaps in our political and cultural infrastructure. The goal? To have Latinos participate to their potential, embracing progressive politics and culture. 

The scope of our work is purposefully broad and designed to engage Latinos in multiple arenas because we believe that this moment requires a complete re-thinking of how we engage Latinos. Our approach is to work collaboratively with partners and allies, lead with learning and research, and build programs that address the deep-rooted issues that prevent our community from participating becoming influential and powerful.

POSITION SUMMARY

Equis is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Surround Sound Director adept at managing a team of strategists and large scale narrative and/or strategic communications projects. The Surround Sound Director will set strategy, convene and support partners, optimize spending, disseminate recommendations, and lead response for Latino narrative and communications work for 2022 and beyond. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and implement a strategic communications plan for the 2022 election, focused on building Latinx movement, civic engagement, and political infrastructure and response 
• Manage team of ads strategists, responsible for their growth and success. This includes hiring, check-ins, performance reviews, onboarding, training, and professional development for your team.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with core partners with our Partnerships team, to support, convene,  optimize Latinx communications infrastructure across the ecosystem. This also includes managing and implementing feedback from partners and other stakeholders.  
• Act as a public spokesperson among our partnership ecosystem - evangelizing a data driven, research approach to communications and Equis’ recommendations in this vein 
• Build out Latinx media infrastructure for partner use, including broadcast, shared messaging, optimization of paid spend, and more 
• Identify and lead response for important narrative moments affecting Latinx community in the 2022 election cycle 
• Establish and socialize core election narratives by and for the Latinx community in 2022 
• Contribute to strategy for larger Moonshot initiative and Equis organization, supporting leadership, collaborating with digital and research teams to align work, integrate Surround Sound project with larger mission and objectives,

QUALIFICATIONS

• A commitment to building Latinx political power, progressive politics, and anti-racism
• At least 5 years’ experience in a Senior Communications, Narrative or Messaging role or similar experience The ideal candidate probably has between 7-10 years experience, but it's not a requirement.
• Proven ability to set narratives and strategic communications strategy 
• Experience in building communications and narrative infrastructure, including project management, working with stakeholders, surrogate management, omni-channel communications, and building a messaging apparatus 
• Passion for data driven, research first approach to messaging and narrative work
• Ability to explain and persuade stakeholders to adopt guidance and recommendations 
• Relationships with the Latinx political, social, and cultural ecosystem is a must. Extensive experience working with Latinx stakeholders is strongly encouraged.  
• Ability to manage vendors and consultants and ensure excellent work product  
• Proficiency in Spanish is a must. Fluency is desired but not required. 

• Proven success as a manager and/or Senior Strategist or equivalent experience.
• Keen political instincts, and familiarity with the electoral landscape is a must. Extensive experience working in politics and/or civic engagement is strongly encouraged. 

THIS POSITION REPORTS TO Chief of Moonshot Strategy

LOCATION Remote (USA), with occasional domestic travel according to CDC guidelines

EMPLOYEE STATUS Full-Time

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary expectation for this particular position is $120,000-$140,000, dependent on relevant experience and location. Equis offers medical, dental, vision coverage at no premium, 4% employer match 401K, and excellent vacation, sick and personal leave.
